He was making the rounds a year ago while Patrick was in for a preseason seat fitting, and a 6-foot flame was unleashed a little too close to the most famous woman in racing.
“That scared the hell out of her,” said Tony Gibson, crew chief for her No. 10 Chevrolet. “She took off running through the shop, screaming, ‘Don’t mess my hair up! I made my money with my hair!’ It was funny.”
There’s a practical reason involving primary sponsorship why Patrick would worry about defending her derriere.
“That’s because my hair almost touches it, and I’ve heard this stuff goes up quick,” she recalled with a laugh during a break from testing at Daytona International Speedway. “I feel like we’d have a Go Daddy issue if I didn’t have (the hair) anymore.”
